Google Pixel 4a 5G Review and Accessories : Better Than Google Pixel 5
Google recently released their latest smartphone, the Pixel 4a 5G. Do not confuse this with the Google Pixel 4a because there are some significant differences between these two. So I thought about giving a quick review about the Pixel 4a 5G to our beloved readers but that is not it, there are some pretty good Pixel 4a 5G cases in here too.
Let’s take a look at the Pixel 4a 5G really quick,
First I have to say that this 4a 5G is not just the 4a with the 5G connectivity. It is much more than that. Actually the 4a 5G comes toe to toe with the Pixel 5 in several ways and obviously over performs the 4a in several ways. This smartphone costs a bit more than what 4a costs but lot less than the Pixel 5. The body of the 4a 5G is made from very soft polycarbonate and it doesn’t attract any oily fingerprints (same as the 4a) unlike some other smartphones with aluminium bodies. 4a 5G is considerably faster than the 4a because it uses the same processor that is used in the Pixel 5. Since it is running with the stock operating system (Android One), the controllability is really smooth and the OS helps to impressively save the battery. The 4a was launched with pre-installed Android 10 on it and this 4a 5G comes with the currently latest Android 11. You will have a 128GB internal storage on this but you cannot expand it using an external memory card (keep in mind that Google offers unlimited cloud storage with google photos). One thing that Pixel 4a 5G misses is the 90hz refresh rate. This only comes in a 60hz refresh rate so if you are moving from a 90hz to 60hz that is a significant downgrade (of course you will forget the difference in sometime but…). All the rivalries of the 4a 5G has the 90hz display but sadly this doesn’t. Both 4a and the 4a 5G do not support the wireless charging feature, and the 4a 5G only supports 18W fast charging which is a bit low when comparing to the other smartphones in the same price range. When talking about the gorgeous camera featured in this Pixel 4a 5G, it is actually very similar to the camera in Pixel 5. This smartphone’s camera has several features that 4a does not include (Cinematic Pan, Ultra wide Lens, Portrait Light) but the Pixel 5 does. Another most important thing about the 4a 5G is, it has the 3.5mm audio jack while Pixel 5 does not.

Now we are done talking about the differences of those so let’s take a look at several cases for the Pixel 4a 5G.
1. Spigen Ultra Hybrid
Ultra Hybrid from Spigen is a very popular type of smartphone case among the worldwide users. This case has a nice soft rubber frame on it (made from TPU). You can choose between the Matte Black version and the Crystal Clear version. I’d say you should go with the Matte Black version because that version of the case does not turn its edges colour into brown overtime. No matter what version you choose the back of the case is transparent. The main problem with those transparent cases is they attract fingerprints unlike the other cases so you always have to wipe them. The edges are greatly raised for provide protection when laying on its face down. Every button cut-out is nice and precise and there is a good raised cut-out in the camera. Really good case for the given price when overlooking the disadvantage of fingerprints.
2. Spigen Tough Armor
As the name says Tough Armor case is really a tough one. The frame is made from TPU and the back of the case is made from Polycarbonate (same material used in the 4a 5G). This case doesn’t attract any fingerprint like the Ultra Hybrid. There are two types called Black and Gunmetal which only differs in the colour. All the precise cut-outs and the raised edges are back in this case too. Even though this is a tough and stiff case it feels nice in the hand and there is no bulky feeling. In addition to all these, this case includes a kickstand made from the same polycarbonate that is used in the back. It is strong when holding the phone and tight fitting when locked. Undoubtedly one of the best cases from Spigen.
3. Poetic Revolution Series
This is more like a heavily upgraded Spigen Tough Armor case. The design is actually very similar to the Tough Armor because it is made from TPU and Polycarbonate too. In this Poetic Revolution case you will get a screen protector too. This provides a quite good drop protection and a scratch protection while having a large kickstand that can be used in both horizontal and vertical ways. If you don’t like the given screen protector, then you can just use the extra front frame that is provided with the case with any tempered glass you like. Keep in mind that this is a rugged case and feels little bit bulky on the hand because the hard material and the screen protector. Overall this is a great case in several ways.
4. Poetic Guardian Series
Same like the Poetic Revolution case but with a transparent back and no kickstand. The design is really simple and catchy when comparing to the Revolution Series. This case comes in four different colours (Black, Blue, Green and Pink). No matter what colour you choose only the front frame and a small part from the back changes, everything else stays black except the transparent back. So you need to think twice when going for a different colour other than black. This is also providing a considerable amount of drop protection and all the cut-outs and raised edges stays the same like in the previous one. But unlike the other cases this may attract your fingerprints on its back so that is a bit disappointing fact. Despite that little disadvantage you will find this pretty great and you can’t find any other case as good as this for the given price.
5. Anccer Newborn Series
A case made from synthetic leather. this Anccer Newborn Series smartphone case is rounded with a TPU frame and the back is mainly made from Polycarbonate but covered with a leather. I cannot recommend this as a shock proof case because the TPU frame is not strong enough. The feeling that is provided by the leather is really nice and it doesn’t attract fingerprints. This case isn’t the one with the best raised edges and the cut-outs but it has enough raised edges and good cut-outs (the fingerprint cut-out could have been better). You should be aware that since this is a leather case it might get little bit slippery when your hands are wet.
6. OtterBox Commuter Series
OtterBox name is well renowned for their rugged cases. This Commuter series case has a nice, decent design and provides a good protection to your phone. It has a nice soft touch and doesn’t feel bulky but it may change after adding a screen protector. Since the back is really smooth it may be slippery at times. A decent — protective case for sure.
7. OtterBox Symmetry Clear Series
This is not a rugged or a protective case, it is more focused on being stylish. It has a nice texture in its back and it looks like a sky full of stars. The case is fully transparent but there is a huge chance of discoloration of the edges with long time use. It may attract fingerprints but it won’t easily noticeable due to the texture. Since the case is very thin it will slip into your pocket easily but you should have a good grip when holding it otherwise it will try to slip away.
